Key Responsibilities:
1. Vessel Management:
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned vessels, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
• Liaise with shipmasters and chief engineers to ensure vessels comply with company standards and international maritime regulations.
• Monitor vessel performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules.
2. Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure that all vessels meet safety, environmental, and quality standards set by international maritime laws (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL) and flag state regulations.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to verify compliance with regulations and company policies.
• Prepare for and manage external inspections by authorities or classification societies.
3. Safety and Incident Management:
• Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency response plans.
• Investigate any incidents, accidents, or near-misses onboard vessels, and prepare reports with corrective actions.
• Ensure all crew members are trained and comply with safety standards.
4. Maintenance and Repairs:
• Coordinate planned maintenance and repair schedules in collaboration with technical teams.
• Oversee dry-docking and refit projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution.
• Monitor the condition of vessels and ensure timely action on repairs or upgrades.
5. Crew Management and Support:
• Liaise with the crewing department to ensure vessels are properly manned with skilled and certified personnel.
• Provide guidance and support to shipmasters and other senior officers onboard.
• Address any crew-related issues affecting the performance of the vessel.
6. Budget and Cost Control:
• Prepare and manage operational budgets for the assigned fleet.
• Optimize operational costs without compromising on safety and regulatory standards.
7. Reporting and Communication:
• Maintain records and reports on vessel performance, safety incidents, and operational status.
• Regularly communicate with the company’s management team, providing updates on the fleet’s status.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Minimum of a Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency (CoC) for seagoing officers.
• Significant sea experience, often at least 5-10 years as a Captain or Chief Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental laws.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
• Experience in managing budgets and optimizing operational costs.
• Familiarity with maintenance and repair planning for vessels.
• Willingness to travel and work irregular hours as required.
Work Environment:
• Office-based with frequent travel to vessels, shipyards, and dry docks.
• Work under pressure to resolve urgent issues that may arise during vessel operations.
